There are practical benefits of a college basketball career as well. Many ex-players interviewed by Citywire highlighted time management, discipline and attention to detail as crucial skills they picked up during their on-court careers.
‘Those are all life skills that really translate once you’re in the working world,’ said Moneta advisor Susan Brown, who won an NCAA Division III national championship in 2001 at Washington University in St. Louis. ‘I would say it was an easy transition, just because I felt well-prepared, having learned a lot of life skills during my time in school. It was basically a full-time job, and balancing that along with school, you had to learn how to do things pretty effectively and efficiently.’
