Ask the CFP®: What is the Team’s Approach to the Financial Planning Process?

Welcome to this month’s Ask the CFP® segment. We’ve been asked to describe our team’s approach to the financial planning process.

Our team believes in holistic, goals-based financial planning that puts the client first. We function as the quarterback of your overall financial management and work together with your other advisors and Moneta’s internal resources. We help coordinate the details and nuances so you achieve what matters most to you.

For someone we’re meeting for the first time, think of our initial meeting like a first date. This is usually a short, informal opportunity for you and our team to get to know each other. We want to learn a bit about your hopes, dreams, and goals. We also share a little bit about our team, our processes, and how we build relationships with our clients. This is the time to get a feeling of whether there is a “fit” with what you are looking for in a financial planner. In some cases, we may mutually realize that what someone needs or wants doesn’t align with what our Moneta team does.

If both parties mutually decide to move forward, the relationship deepens. The next step is a follow up meeting where we really delve into understanding your precise goals, and then gather all the data points needed to create your Financial Goal Plan.

We then analyze your current data and help determine if you are on track for your goals. Based on these projections, we will identify additional strategies to increase the likelihood of achieving your priorities in the Financial Goal Plan.

The Financial Goal Plan process is comprehensive in nature, with significant diligence and consideration for your specific situation. Once developed, we’ll present our findings and recommendations to you. Most financial goal plans will cover money management & cash flow, investment planning, risk planning, and estate planning, as well as any unique circumstances. In addition, we analyze your current progress toward achieving your personal financial goals so you know where you stand. Once we have developed a plan of action, our team will provide personalized service to coordinate your entire financial picture. Essentially, we take care of the details so you can spend your time on what matters most to you. From making asset allocation changes to analyzing tax returns, to consulting on estate documents and more, being your financial quarterback allows for a cohesive strategy to reach your goals and objectives. Our team enjoys helping people accomplish their goals in life so they can spend it on what matters most. Our financial planning process is an integral part of what we do for our clients.
